I want to buy a used garmin 430w. What documentation do I need to install a Garmin 430w into my airplane? What documentation is required by the FAA for an STC or "supplemental type certificate" for my airplane?

The FAA website has information pertaining to Supplemental type certificates installation on the airplane (STC not your own).
The FAA indicates STC holders need to provide written permission for alterations. See 14 CFR § 21.120
Additionally, the FAA requires a person altering an aircraft based on an STC to only do so if he or she holds the STC or has written permission from its holder.
See 14 CFR § 91.403(d)
You can find STC SA01933LA-D for a Garmin 430W install on the FAA website. You will need to review the 400w series installation manual in full for installation and appendix B for STC DATA related to particular install. This appendix directs you to the AML where you can verify that your aircraft is an approved model, and gives you or the installer permission to use the STC and associated data. See page B-1 of installation manual for below referenced information.
B.4 STC Approved Model List
The 400W/500W Series STC SA01933LA Approved Model List (AML) includes airplanes that are type certificated only under CAR 3 or 14 CFR Part 23. The Garmin 400W Series unit equipment is approved for installation on all aircraft listed on the AML when adhering to the installation instructions and the limitations described in this 400W Series Installation Manual. The AML is attached to STC SA01933LA and may be downloaded from the Garmin web site at www.garmin.com.
B.2 STC Permission
Consistent with Order 8110.4C and AC 21-40, Garmin/Garmin AT grants permission to Garmin dealers, installers, and owners of the 400W Series unit equipment to use this STC and the data associated with it, for the sole and express purpose of installation and approval of installation of the 400W Series unit equipment and associated interfaces to other previously approved equipment.
In addition to installation data, you should also pay attention to parts traceability. Does the used 430w have serviceability documents with it. A yellow tag documenting the history and that the part is serviceable by the remover is one option. You may also receive 8130 documentation that contains important repair or overhaul information you can use as your reference for serviceability,
